The Even Steven foundation is currently available in 8 shades :
Lighter Than Light is similar to NW20 and it has pink undertones.
Light is the equivalent of NW25. It has pink undertones.
Light/Medium is slightly darker than NW25. It has pinky beige undertones.
Medium is warmer than Light/Medium, this color is similar to NC30 and it has golden beige undertones.
Medium/Dark is slightly darker than NW30. It has beige undertones.
Mid-Medium is warmer than Medium/Dark, this shade is similar to NC40. It has yellow peach undertones.
Dark is the equivalent of NW40. It has pinky beige undertones.
After Dark is slightly lighter than NW45. It has cool undertones.
There's only two shades with yellow undertones (Medium and Mid-Medium), and the 3 lightest shades have pink or beige undertones. Unfortunately, none of them are a great match for me when I'm not tan because I need yellow or olive undertones.
For your information, when I'm at my palest I usually wear MAC NC15 or Make Up For Ever Y225, and when I use self tanner my skin color can vary between NC30 and NC40.
I think a paler shade than Lighter Than Light with yellow undertones would be great, as well as a darker and warmer shade than After Dark.
On me, the Even Steven foundation provide medium coverage. I haven't been able to completely cover the monsters on my chin (thanks, hormones), even with a second layer. So I wouldn't say that the coverage is buildable.
It has a matte finish and doesn't contain any shimmers or glitters. Oh and it doesn't feel greasy or sticky!
TheBalm Even Steven Foundation in Medium
While it doesn't necessarily look like second skin, it doesn't look super cakey either. It gives a similar finish than L'Oréal Infallible Total Cover, but the formula is more creamy (less thick) so it glides more easily on the skin. The staying power is better, too!
It does accentuate dry patches though, so I don't think this foundation will be suitable for dry skin types.
With that being said, I was really impressed by how well this foundation lasted on me! I usually don't expect whipped (or mousse) foundations to last all day on my oily skin. They usually slide right off my face or separate in less than 2-3 hours.
This one doesn't! It last all day without separating or settling into my fine lines.
I even wore it for more than 11 hours and while my skin was quite oily, the foundation was still beautiful after I blotted the excess oils with a blotting sheet.
I would say that the staying power is on par with Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear and Estée Lauder Double Wear.
The TheBalm Even Steven Whipped Foundation retails for $22 US for 13.4ml.
(I received these products in order to evaluate them and give my opinion, but rest assured that my comments are always honest and impartial.)
On par with Double Wear?!?! SOLD.
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it!

ReplyDeleteHi Nicollette! I'm glad you liked the review!
DeleteI'm surprised by the lack of swatches. Unfortunately I only have 2 shades of the TimeBalm concealer, but let me check if I can get my hands on the other 7 shades.
Hi Nicollette!
DeleteI will be able to write a review for you, with all the swatches :) I'm not sure when I will receive the products though, I hope you can wait a little longer! :)
