NARS Velvet Lip Glides (Toy, Deviant, Bound, Playpen, Mineshaft, Danceteria, No.54)

Today I'm reviewing the new NARS Velvet Lip Glide! Available in 12 shades, these hybrid lip colors are supposed to be hydrating, long-lasting and intensely pigmented. They are enhanced with an Oil Infusion Complex, which allows for a very smooth consistency.

The Velvet Lip Glides are nothing like a matte liquid lipstick, they don't set on the lips so they aren't transfer resistant and the finish isn't ultra matte. They are shiny like a lipgloss, very pigmented, hydrating and so comfortable on the lips! They glide smoothly onto the lips and are non-sticky, and when I say non-sticky I really mean it. You have to try it to believe it!

The color payoff is incredible, although some shades (Bound, Toy and Deviant) required a bit more product to achieve complete opacity. Playpen has a tendency to gather into fine lines and Toy is a bit patchy, but the 5 other shades applied with even coverage and didn't settle into fine lines.

They are surprisingly long-wearing, the light shades (Playpen and Bound) wore well for 3-4 hours, while the other shades lasted 5-6 hours. I did notice a bit of feathering with the darker colors (Deviant and Toy) so I would suggest to outline your lips with a lip pencil.

The formula is versatile, you can apply a thick layer if you want a glossy finish and intense color payoff or apply a thin layer (wipe off the excess on the inner rim of the tube) if you prefer a satin finish. Because the product is highly pigmented, the colors aren't too sheer if you apply a thin layer.

By the way, the Velvet Lip Glides have a lovely vanilla scent (similar to MAC lipsticks) but no taste.

Mineshaft is a bright warm-toned red with a glossy finish.

NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave is lighter and more orange, the finish is matte. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in 714 is cooler and slightly darker, the finish is matte. BITE Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Gazpacho is darker and cooler.

Bound is a mauvey nude with a glossy finish.

MUFE Artist Rouge Creme Lipstick in C211 is darker and cooler. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Apoline is darker and slightly warmer. MAC Satin Lipstick in Faux is a bit cooler. MAC Lustre Lipstick in Hug Me is slightly lighter and warmer.

Deviant is a muted raspberry plum with a glossy finish.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Rock Steady is less purple, more red. MUFE Artist Rouge Creme Lipstick in C407 is much darker. NARS Killer Shine Lipstick in No Shame is brighter, more magenta and a bit lighter. MAC Matte Lipstick in Studded Kiss is darker and a bit less purple, the finish is matte.

Playpen is a peachy rose with brown undertones, the finish is glossy.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Athens is lighter, less pink. MAC Lustre Lipstick in Cut a Caper is lighter, more coral. MUFE Artist Rouge Creme Lipstick in C104 is lighter, more beige. Dose of Colors Lipstick in Sorbet is brighter and slightly lighter, more peach. Estée Lauder Liquid Lip Potion in Fierce Beauty is darker and slightly brighter.

Toy is a dark purple with a glossy finish.

MUFE Artist Rouge Creme Lipstick in C506 is slightly lighter and brighter. NARS Killer Shine Lipgloss in Provoke is a bit lighter and brighter. MAC Matte Lipstick in Instigator is a bit more violet and darker, the finish is matte as well. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania is darker and the finish is matte.

No.54 is a bright neutral red with a glossy finish. 

Lise Watier Baiser Satin Liquid Lipstick in Red Hot Kiss is darker and slightly cooler. NYC Get It All Lipstick in IncREDdible is less vibrant, a bit darker and more brown. NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Mineshaft is slightly brighter, lighter and warmer.

Danceteria is a bright warm pink with a glossy finish.

MUFE Artist Plexi-Gloss in 209 is much lighter and cooler. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Stefania is a bit darker and more plum. NYC Get It All Lipstick in FabFUCHSIA is similar but slightly warmer. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Firebird is brighter and cooler, it has a subtle blue iridescent sheen.
